Hotel Centrale Byron

Lord Byron, presumably staying in other houses at Ravenna, maybe would have raised an eyebrow .. the furniture and wall paintings are enchantingly old-fashioned, something that could be exposed in a design museum as a swirling mix of the Fifties and the Seventies. Rooms are not to small and very clean and so is the bathroom. The staff is extremely friendly and will make your dive into the past very pleasant Italian style breakfast: rather poor; if you are late, you get the famous "Brioches in the sack". But! the view from the breakfast room .. directly on the narrow Italian street, with cars blocking each other and people shouting ... would make moviemakers happy.

Hotel Centrale Byron This is an older and unexceptional hotel with three very important exceptions: Location, location, location… Right in the center of the action. Many restaurants of all kinds from gelato to fine dining are nearby and a very short walk. Just a few steps from Piazza del Popolo. Ravenna is beautiful. The sites with the gorgeous mosaics are well within most people's walking distance often as close as 5 - 6 minutes. STUNNINGLY beautiful mosaics and early Christian history with few rivals. Marco at the front desk: Cheerful and helpful beyond expectations. We were grateful for his assistance and pleasantness. The hotel needs to hold onto Marco as he improved our stay and certainly that of others. All considered a good value. On the downside: The wifi in our room was very weak. The 2.4 gig signal dropped us repeatedly making research of the city more difficult. Our room was located towards the back of the hotel. The signal was better in front. Managing climate control seemed impossible. Our room (toward the back) was a bit noisy with what sounded like restaurant plates clanging but that might have simply been our particular room location. Everything said, thanks to location and price, we would probably book again, especially if Marco was there.
